1. Navigate to the Clients tab on the ribbon on the left.
2. Search/select the client you wish to create a project for. Click on the blue client name or View to open that client.
3. Go to Projects tab.
4. Select +Add in the Recurring Project Templates section as seen below:
5. Using the image above as reference, populate the required field (*) and anything else that you'd want the project to have such as:

Recurring Type -
- Daily- Project will recur everyday (Monday-Sunday)
- Every Week Day- Project will recur everyday (Monday-Friday)
- For Weekly and Monthly- Please identify how frequently you would like the project to recur in the Number of Months/Weeks box.
- Semi-Monthly - Project will recur semi-monthly
- Quarterly - Project will recur quarterly
- Annually - Project will recur annually
Advanced Options for Monthly and Weekly Projects:
Weekly: You can choose which day of the week you wish for the project to recur.
Monthly: You have the option to select a specific Day of Month (for example the 15th of every month), the Last Day of the Month or a Specific Weekday (for example if you wanted the monthly project to recur on the second Monday of each month, you would select Second and when the Day of Week box appears, you can select Monday)
- Period/Year Policy - Previous Year/Period, Current Year/Period, Current Year End, Previous Year End
Note: Most projects will be Previous Period/Year, but some projects like Payroll and Bookkeeping (when paying the bills for a client) would be Current Period/Year*. Previous Year End is the previous tax year.

Project Template - You can tie this project to a project template.
- Note: If you have the "Backdated Project Initial Status" set to a status in your project template, you will see a notification prompt stating that this project is more than 10 days in the past if your Next Date is set to an older date such as last years date or 1 month before.
- Use case: If you're working on an existing project from the previous year.
- Assigned To - User this project is assigned to(Partner in Charge, Manager, Bookkeeper, or a user client custom field)
*For tax return projects - we recommend you leave the project unassigned or set up a project assignment rule to assign the project to a staff member at a certain project status. Click HERE for more details.
- Next Date - The next date that you would like for the project to become active.
- Days To Complete - Identify the number of days to complete
- Name - Name your project and you have the option to click on the $(MONTH), $(YEAR), $(QUARTER), and/or $(START DATE) placeholders to insert current values in Project name at each iteration.
- Description - Short summary of the project
- Hour Estimate - A set amount of hours that you will work on this project.
- Cost Estimate - How much this project will be billed for
- Sequential Tasks - If you want to see this project in a sequential sequence. For example, you will only see the current status it's on and once you complete that status, the next one will display.
- Show Project Status in Client Portal
6. Click Save.
Note: Open projects can be found under the global Clients, search criteria or global Projects tab on the left-hand side of the screen
