How to Set Up Quarterly Tax Projects

The due dates for quarterly estimated tax payments don't align with standard calendar quarters, so a traditional recurring quarterly project type won't work. Instead, we recommend creating 4 separate annual recurring projects — one for each quarterly due date.

  • Q1 Payment (Jan 1 – Mar 31): April 15, 2026
  • Q2 Payment (Apr 1 – May 31): June 15, 2026
  • Q3 Payment (Jun 1 – Aug 31): September 15, 2026
  • Q4 Payment (Sep 1 – Dec 31): January 15, 2027

Step 1: Create a Quarterly Estimated Tax Project Template

Before setting up the recurring projects, you'll need a project template. Navigate to Customizations in the black ribbon and select Project Templates.

Note: You must have an Admin role to access Customizations.

In the bottom right corner, click Add Project Template, then configure the following:

Target Date — Set a target date relative to the Start Date of the Project

Step 2: Set Up Recurring Projects on the Client

Navigate to the client you need to set up quarterly tax projects for. In the Recurring Project Templates section, click Add, then configure each project as follows:

  • Recurring Type: Annual
  • Period/Year Policy: Current Year End
  • Template: Select the Quarterly Tax template you created

For each of the 4 quarterly due dates, repeat this process with these settings: Tip: Name each project to clearly reflect the quarter.

Step 3: Repeat for All 4 Due Dates

You will need to create 4 separate recurring project entries to cover all four estimated tax due dates. Each project will automatically become active on the first of its respective due date month.
