If you are unable to select a previous status in a project and it does not appear in the dropdown, this is due to how the project workflow is configured. A workflow defines which Status Transitions are allowed from one Status to another.
Overview
Project statuses in Firm360 are controlled by workflows. If a previous status is not available in the dropdown, it means the workflow does not allow moving backward to that status.
Why This Happens
Workflows are configured with specific statuses to keep the project or track and restrict the movement of statuses. As a result:
- Only allowed next statuses will appear in the dropdown
- Previous statuses may be restricted and not selectable
- This behavior is intentional based on the workflow design
How to Resolve
If you need to move a project back to a previous status, one of the following changes is required:
Option 1: Update the Workflow
Modify the workflow to allow movement back to prior statuses. You can read more about Project Workflows here.
- Navigate to Project Workflows (Admin access required)
- Add the desired previous status as an available transition
Option 2: Remove or Simplify the Workflow
If the workflow is too restrictive, consider removing or simplifying it to allow more flexibility in status changes.
Important Notes
- Status options are entirely controlled by the assigned workflow
- If a status is not visible, it is not permitted within the current workflow
- Changes to workflows may require Admin permissions
- Updating the workflow will impact all projects using that workflow
